Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis) Treatment - Sydney
Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) can be an incredibly anxiety-inducing condition. Everyone sweats in hot weather, but for the 2-3% of the population who suffer from hyperhidrosis, the sweat glands just don’t shut off. Our anti-sweating injections can help to alleviate the problem. In most cases, the results from a single treatment will even last 6 to 8 months.
So if you’re seeking treatment because you know what it’s like to be sitting in a cool room completely immobile and still dripping in sweat, then know that you’ve come to the right place. Read on to find out more information about our hyperhidrosis treatment in Sydney, or you can contact us if you have any further questions or would like to book a consultation.
What is hyperhidrosis?
Anti-sweating treatments involve the use of a formula that is injected into the site of excessive sweating. The formula is designed to block the nerves that are responsible for activating the body’s sweat glands. Excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis is a condition that can be caused by a number of factors.
What are the common causes of excessive sweating?
Some of the most common causes of the condition include certain medical conditions, like heart disease and hyperthyroidism. It often occurs during menopause, but can also begin in childhood for many people. The condition generally causes excessive sweating in areas like the underarms, head, and face.
Injections are used to treat excessive sweating in many areas of the body.
What are the benefits of hyperhidrosis treatment?
There are both physical and mental benefits of hyperhidrosis treatment:
- Prevents excess sweating in many areas of the body
- Removes the need for using antiperspirant deodorant
- Improves self-confidence and reduces feelings of anxiety
- Eliminates unwanted sweat patches from underarm sweating
- No need for surgery for hyperhidrosis
- No need for oral medications which can have significant side effects
How does excessive sweating treatment work at ICCM in Sydney?
If you choose to have your hyperhidrosis treatment in Sydney with us at ICCM, this is what you can expect:
Consultation
If you suffer from excessive sweating and are considering an anti-sweating treatment, we recommend that you come in for a personal consultation at the clinic. This will give you the opportunity to raise any questions or concerns you might have about the procedure, and ensure that it is the right treatment for your particular needs.
Procedure
Our doctors utilise a natural, purified protein with muscle-relaxing properties to deactivate smooth muscle within sweat glands, reducing their activity. Tiny needles are used to inject the product just underneath the skin. A numbing cream can be applied to the area prior to treatment, although most clients find this unnecessary as the treatment is quick and only mildly uncomfortable.
The formula is injected below the skin’s surface with the use of a very fine needle. During the treatment session, your doctor will administer multiple injections into the area of concern. The number of injections you require will depend on the site of treatment, as well as the severity of your condition.
Recovery
Excessive sweating injections are fairly simple and don’t cause any considerable pain or discomfort after the treatment. You should be able to resume your normal activities immediately after the procedure. Some possible side effects of the treatment include some mild bruising at the site of the injections, and, in some cases, some minor tenderness.
Results
After treatment, you will no longer have to worry about personal odour or underarm stains. It may take up to a week for you to notice the results of your treatment, and two weeks to feel complete dryness at the site of treatment. It is important to note that the effects of the treatment, while long-lasting, are not permanent.
For this reason, we recommend that you come in for follow-up appointments. Your doctor will advise you on how often you should receive anti-sweating injections, depending on your particular needs. Results of the treatment often last for up to 8 months, although this varies from person to person.
After having anti-sweating injections many people no longer feel the need to use other forms of antiperspirant.
Am I a good candidate for hyperhidrosis treatment?
While it’s generally people who suffer from overactive sweat glands that seek out this treatment, it can also benefit people who deal with a normal amount of sweating. Anti-sweating injections are far more effective than a spray or roll-on antiperspirant. In fact, after undergoing this treatment many people no longer feel the need to use other forms of antiperspirant.
How much does hyperhidrosis treatment cost?
The cost of the treatment is $1,200 per area (both palms or both underarms for example). In order to find out exactly how much the treatment would cost you, we recommend booking an initial consultation with us. That way we can come up with a bespoke treatment plan that suits your individual needs.

FAQs
Below you can find the questions that we’re most frequently asked about our hyperhidrosis treatment in Sydney:
Primary hyperhidrosis is usually inherited, begins during childhood and worsens with puberty (especially in women). Secondary hyperhidrosis is caused by an underlying medical condition or by taking certain medications and axillary hyperhidrosis is localised to the armpits, to compensate for environmental conditions and to control thermoregulation.
No, unfortunately, there is currently no cure for hyperhidrosis. However, anti-sweating injections are very effective at combating the condition.
For some lucky individuals with hyperhidrosis, the condition has been known to go away naturally. However, this is very unlikely and for most people with excessive sweating (especially severe cases) the condition doesn’t clear up on its own.
In many cases one treatment session will counteract your excessive sweating for up to 8 months, however, results vary from person to person.
Side effects are uncommon and usually mild, however, you may experience red bumps in the areas of injection along with some mild bruising. Note though that this is natural and will clear up fairly quickly.
There is minimal aftercare required after treatment, however, we recommend that you avoid touching the treatment site for the first 4 hours and avoid exercise/hot environments and applying any creams to the area for at least 24 hours.
Risks and complications of cosmetic surgery
These risks, while concerning, are generally rare and can be mitigated through careful planning, following pre- and post-operative care instructions, and working with qualified and experienced medical practitioners, like those at ICCM. But it can still be beneficial to understand potential risks that can occur, so you can discuss these risks before proceeding with any treatment.
Bruising and Swelling
Bruising and swelling are common side effects of surgery as the body responds to tissue trauma. While these symptoms typically subside within a few weeks, severe bruising can cause discomfort and prolong recovery. In some cases, significant swelling might indicate underlying issues such as fluid accumulation or infection, requiring further medical attention.
Â
Pain
Pain is an expected part of recovery from any surgery, but its intensity and duration can vary. While most pain can be managed with prescribed medications, some patients may experience prolonged or severe pain, which could indicate complications such as nerve damage or infection. Chronic pain is a less common, but more serious, concern that might persist long after the typical recovery period.
Undesirable Cosmetic Outcome
An undesirable cosmetic outcome occurs when the results of the surgery do not meet the patient’s expectations, or the aesthetic goals outlined before the procedure. This could be due to asymmetry, unnatural appearance, or a failure to achieve the desired contour or shape. In some cases, additional procedures, known as revision surgeries, may be needed to correct these issues.
Nerve Damage
Nerve damage is a risk in many cosmetic procedures, especially those that involve cutting near nerves. This can lead to numbness, tingling, or even loss of sensation in the affected area. While some nerve damage may be temporary and improve over time, permanent nerve injury can result in lasting changes in sensation or function.
The information on the website is for general guidance only and cannot be used as a basis to make a surgical decision, an initial consultation with our doctor is required to help patients make an informed decision before proceeding with any surgical procedure. Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek the opinion of an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
