The Fraxel Restore is a revolutionary non-ablative laser treatment
The Fraxel Restore laser is suitable for all skin types and helps to remove years from your appearance and regain a more youthful look. The laser skin treatment is used to address issues like pigmentation, sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles, and acne scarring. It can be used on the face, as well as areas like the neck, hands, and décolletage.
What should I expect at the consultation?
If you would like to have a skin issue, like pigmentation or wrinkles, treated with laser therapy, we recommend that you come in for a personal consultation before committing to the Fraxel Restore treatment. This will give you the opportunity to raise any questions or concerns you might have about the procedure to ensure that it is the right treatment for your particular needs. We will also perform a thorough skin evaluation and advise you on the number of treatments you require. We offer a range of skin treatments so we will let you know if Fraxel Restore is the best option, which will depend on the overall condition of your skin and your expectations.
How does the Fraxel Restore process work?
First, a topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area — this stays on for 30 minutes. The numbing cream is removed prior to treatment.
During the Fraxel Restore treatment itself, a specially designed head is passed over the skin’s surface. This produces thousands of tiny, but deep columns in the skin, known as ‘microthermal treatment zones,’ which penetrate deep into the dermis. After this, cell renewal and healing occurs whereby old and pigmented epidermal cells are eliminated.
Generally, patients tolerate the treatment very well, however, some patients experience slight discomfort during the treatments and an oral anaesthetic can be administered if required. Immediately after the treatment, the patient’s face appears ruddy and feels quite hot and tight.
The Fraxel Restore treatment is immediately followed by a 20-minute session of LED White Light Therapy. This is designed to reduce swelling and promote rapid healing. A soothing cream and sunscreen are applied before the patient leaves the clinic. Mineral make-up can be applied on request.
Generally, patients need to allow 60 minutes in the clinic to complete the treatment which includes: 30 minutes for numbing cream and 30 minutes for the Fraxel Restore treatment.
What can the treatment be used for?
Many patients seek the Fraxel Restore treatment to correct sun-damaged, pigmented and aged skin. Clinical studies recommend a course of five treatments to achieve desired results. These treatments can be performed four to eight weeks apart.
Fraxel Restore can be used to treat a range of skin conditions, including:
- Sun Damage
- Fine Lines & Wrinkles
- Acne Scars
- Surgical Scars
- Enlarged Pores
How long does the recovery take?
It usually takes around three to five days to fully recover from the procedure, and you may experience some redness and peeling as your skin heals. It is important that you protect your skin from the sun and avoid harsh products during this time. Use a gentle cleansing product to wash your face, and apply a moisturiser twice daily.
What kind of results can I expect?
Some results are immediate — such as a feeling of plumpness and reduced lines and wrinkles (usually due to initial swelling in the areas). Most patients comment that their skin starts to feel fresher and smoother within two weeks of the first Fraxel Restore treatment.
Because the treatment penetrates deep into the dermal layer of the skin, the regeneration process takes place over the following weeks and months. Patients notice that their skin continues to improve over the three to six months following Fraxel treatment.
We encourage patients to return to ICCM for photographs one month after their final session of Fraxel Restore Laser in order to compare the differences in their skin’s appearance and texture.
How much does the treatment cost?
The Fraxel Restore treatment costs $900.
