The Dermapen 3™ is a new micro-needling device, which aims to give you more youthful-looking skin.
If you like to keep up to date with the most cutting-edge beauty treatments, the chances are you’ve heard of skin needling. This popular treatment comes in many forms, but the basic idea is that a device is used to insert a number of very thin, surgical steel needles into the skin. In puncturing the skin so many times in such close proximity, the body’s wound-repairing mechanisms are activated, which stimulates the production of new cells, smooths the skin and helps to reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks.

Skin needling is a minimally invasive procedure, which can be used to treat a wide range of skin conditions. The treatment works by boosting the skin’s natural ability to regenerate. When the Dermapen makes tiny injuries to the skin, the body naturally responds by producing new tissue. The new tissue is soft and smooth, which helps to achieve a more youthful appearance.

What should I expect at the consultation?

If you are considering a skin needling treatment, we recommend that you come in for a personal consultation. This will give you the opportunity to raise any questions or concerns you might have about the procedure, and ensure that it is the right treatment for your particular needs. We will also perform a thorough skin evaluation and advise you on the number of treatments you require.

While there are many options on the market, it is of the utmost importance that you choose very carefully when deciding to move forward with a skin needling treatment. Choosing a provider you trust and who uses the appropriate tool is absolutely crucial. Because the treatment involves needles that penetrate through the skin, it’s essential that the tool and your environment are sterile, that the tool is used properly, and that you’re receiving the appropriate level of treatment to achieve your desired result. ICCM ensures they consistently meet these requirements to a high and professional standard.

How does the procedure work?

Before starting your treatment, we will apply a topical anaesthetic to your skin to ensure that you don’t feel any pain or discomfort.

During the skin needling treatment itself, we will use a special device to make tiny pricks under the skin. The device, known as the Dermapen, is moved evenly across the surface of your skin.

There are a number of benefits in choosing Dermapen. The treatment is safer and more effective in piercing the skin than traditional skin needling rollers and has a superior effect on overall skin rejuvenation. The Dermapen device has multi-speed functions, as well as adjustable needle depth. It is possible to treat hard-to-reach places and the treatment promotes scarless healing. The treatment can also be combined with dermal fillers, PRP or Factor 4.

What can the treatment be used for?

Skin needling can be used to treat a range of skin concerns, including:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Some scars, such as those caused by acne
  • Sun spots
  • Reduced skin laxity

How long does recovery take?

The Dermapen will leave you looking a little pink on the day of treatment. The next day you may also wake up slightly blotchy. You can cover this with mineral make-up and return to normal activities. One of the main benefits of a skin needling treatment is that there is minimal downtime required. You may notice, however, that your skin feels more sensitive than usual to the sun. Some patients may experience some mild skin flaking (this usually occurs after the first treatment only) for a couple of days post Dermapen treatment. This is easily managed with make-up.

What kind of results can I expect?

You can expect to notice a more even skin tone, and a generally more youthful appearance after the procedure. You should begin to see the results of your treatment within a few weeks. We do recommend that you come in for multiple treatments for optimal results. For best results, we recommend three to five Dermapen treatments. These should ideally be spaced four to six weeks apart. Once you have completed a series, your results will last up to 18 months. After this, we recommend single maintenance sessions every six to 12 months.
